Stroll around Zürich's Alter Botanischer Garten | May 2023【4K】

Join me on a Sunday morning #ASMR #stroll around Zurich's Old Botanical Garden (Alter Botanischer Garten).

The gardens are an arboretum and botanical garden, which together with the neighbouring Schanzengraben moat and the Bauschänzli bastion on the edge of Zurich's lake form one of the last remains of the Baroque fortifications of Zürich, which was begun in 1642.

The gardens provide an idyllic and tranquil location in the midst of Zürich. In addition to the many trees of the arboretum, the Gessner-Garten forms a popular feature. Situated atop the hill, the medieval herb garden of Swiss physician, naturalist, bibliographer, and philologist Conrad Gessner and is planted with around 50 medicinal plants used by 16th century's healers.

We start our stroll at the entrance to the the gardens from Schanzengrabenpromenade, and initially stroll along the lower level enjoying the early June sunshine and the sounds of the birds.

Following the paths, we start to ascend until we reach the top of the hill and the Gessner-Garten., filled with medicinal and edible herbs and shrubs. Compared with our previous visit to the gardens in March (   • Stroll around Zürich's Alter Botanisc...  ), they are now a mass of colours and insect life.

After touring the Gessner-Garten, we take another path back down to the lower levels and enter the octagonal palm house. After strolling around the palm house, we walk down to the lowest level of the gardens and the area near the Völkerkundemuseum der Universität Zürich, where we finish our walk in front of the pond.
