Shooting Stars was a long-running comedy celebrity panel quiz show that aired on BBC2 and later on BBC Choice from 1995 - 2011. It was one of the funniest shows on television. Shooting Stars was created and hosted by eccentric comedian Vic Reeves and his charismatic partner in crime Bob Mortimer and they were known for their quirky, surreal and weird humor. In Shooting Stars, 2 teams of guest celebrities led by former Gladiators host Ulrika Johnson and comedian and TV presenter Mark Lamarr would get asked true or false questions. They were shown clips from TV shows, films and adverts. Celebrities would do impersonations of other celebrities and characters. Club Singing which Vic Reeves amusingly sing a song like a incoherent club singer and the 2 teams had to guess what song he was singing. The Dove From Above which the 2 teams of celebrities would choose categories of questions displayed on a dove and the Quick Fire Round which the 2 teams had to answer as many questions as they could before time ran out. The captain of the team that won that week's show would choose a team member to participate in the endgame. Throughout the show, Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer would poke fun at the guest celebrities and Ulrika Johnson and Mark Lamarr and get up to all kinds of mischief and surreal scenarios. The true star of Shooting Stars was pre Little Britain and Doctor Who star Matt Lucas. In Shooting Stars, Matt Lucas played a big baby called George Dawes who was the scorekeeper. Matt Lucas was brilliant and he did his own thing and was always hilarious. Shooting Stars made Matt Lucas a star and turned him into a household name and I became a fan of Matt Lucas and I got his autograph in 2003. Sometimes instead of George Dawes, Matt Lucas would play his own mother Marjorie. Matt Lucas would also later play Marjorie Dawes in Little Britain. One of the funniest recurring gags in the show was when Vic Reeves made silly faces when he says "Eranu!" and "Uvavu!" in the Dove From Above rounds. From Series 3 onwards, the clips in the clips rounds were replaced by sketches featuring Vic Reeves. Bob Mortimer. Ulrika Johnson. Mark Lamarr and Matt Lucas. At the end of each show in Series 1, George Dawes would scream when time ran out. George Dawes screaming really made myself and my brother Jack laugh and we couldn't stop laughing for 5 minutes. Shooting Stars wasn't the same after Matt Lucas left the show which he got replaced by Dan Renton Skinner as the unfunny Angelos Epithemiou. Angelos Epithemiou was no George Dawes. Mark Lamarr was later replaced by comedians Will Self and Jack Dee. Shooting Stars was half an hour of fun, entertainment and hilarity and one of the funniest comedy shows to ever have aired on British television and it's up there with Whose Line Is It Anyway (The Drew Carey Era). Barrymore. The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer. Father Ted. Bottom. Red Dwarf. The Fast Show. Little Britain and Hale and Pace. Shooting Stars was a great show to watch on TV on a Friday night. A good laugh and it was Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer at their best.
