Singing workshop with Senegalese Chanting Master Batch Gueye. We are singing the spiritual songs of the Baye Fall people and traditional songs of the leader of the Baye Fall. This is the time to heal ourselves and show a path to forgive each other and be connected to one another. Batch Gueye leads us to connect to our voice, to our heart and what the people need around us. In this way, singing is a form of prayer, teaching us to be kind and understanding. Open to everyone, we will harmonise, learn about our voices and feel what is inside of us.

Batch is a West-African Griot, a storyteller through his music and dance. With a long line of performing artists behind him, music and dancing was always an integral part of life and has surrounded him since birth. The Griot’s duty is to keep culture, bear news, tell stories, entertain and educate their people just as the many generations before them have done. Singing Baye Fall chants is where Batch found his voice. His songs have important messages for the community: know who you are, understand and respect others, share your knowledge, be generous, trust and have faith in life. Batch sings his songs in the Senegalese language Wolof. However, language does not obstruct his music. The passion Batch has can be heard in his soulful voice and understood by all. Batch Gueye has been teaching workshops in singing, drumming and dancing in Senegal and across Europe since 2002. His students say: it is “rare to find someone who has such an exceptional talent in so many domains: music, song-writing, drumming, dance, story-telling and who at the same time lives true to his values. Batch is humble, kind and treats everyone as family.” Batch is changing lives through his music, lifting people up, giving strength and hope.
