What do you do if your scooter's electric start doesn't work? In this video I take you step by step through troubleshooting your electric start components including: the battery, starter relay, starter motor and wiring, brake light switch and starter switch (starter button).

The best tool for troubleshooting the starter system is a test light. Test lights are relatively inexpensive and can be purchased almost anywhere. If you don't have access to a test light you can use a multimeter or even a few wires and a 12v light bulb.

Here is a test light available on amazon that is very suited for home use: https://amzn.to/2zp2ShU

The scooter used in this video is a Kymco People 150 but almost every scooter equipped with electric start uses an identical system. That means you can use this video to troubleshoot scooters motorcycles and mopeds made by Honda, Yamaha, Genuine, SYM, Wolf, Rokketa, Italica, Lance and other GY6 brands.

The two common scooters that don't use the starting system shown in this video are the Honda Ruckus and the Honda Metropolitan, but the Honda PCX 125 and PCX 150 also use a different starting system.
