South Japan - Empire State of Japan [Southern Japanese State (SJS)]
Official Anthem: 君が代 (Kimigayo)

Japan was divided for decades into the Socialist Republic of Japan (SRJ) in the north and the Southern Japanese State (SJS) in the south. The SRJ, modeled after the GDR, encompassed Hokkaido, Tohoku, and northern Chubu, with a socialist one-party system, state-owned industries, and close alignment with the socialist bloc. The SJS retained the OTL constitutional monarchy and market economy, encompassing southern Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa, remaining closely allied with Western powers.

The two states were separated by a fortified border along the Fukushima–Niigata region, creating decades of political tension, limited trade, and cultural divergence. Eventually, in the late 20th century, economic stagnation in the north and popular pressure led to a peaceful reunification, integrating the north politically, economically, and socially into the Southern system.

The unified Japan emerged as a major regional power, modernizing its northern territories, boosting industrial capacity, and strengthening its influence across Asia, with lasting diplomatic, economic, and cultural effects on nations like the Lavendelle Federation, where its future monarch Sarah I carries Japanese royal lineage, further bridging Lavendelle and Japan.
