Messenger can show contacts from your phone in its suggested list, but you can remove them in two ways—either by hiding specific contacts or by turning off contact syncing entirely.

First, open the Messenger app and tap the menu icon in the bottom-right corner. Go to “Settings,” then select “Privacy and safety.” From here, tap “Hidden contacts.” You can hide individual people from appearing in your suggestions by tapping the plus (+) icon, selecting the contacts you want to hide, and saving your changes. This method lets you manually control who appears without removing all synced contacts.

The second method is to disable contact syncing. Go back to the main settings menu and open “Account Center.” Select “Your information and permissions,” then tap “Upload contacts.” Choose your Messenger account and toggle “Upload contacts” off. To remove contacts that have already been synced, go to “Manage contacts” and tap “Delete all contacts.” This will erase previously stored phone contacts from Messenger’s database.

Using both methods ensures that unwanted contacts won’t appear in your suggested list, and disabling syncing prevents them from being added again in the future.
