There is growing evidence that traumatic experiences, especially in early life, have serious and lasting effects on behavior and health. The design of health care environments, as well as the behaviors of providers and staff, can be triggering or re-traumatizing during routine office visits, worsening the harmful effects of trauma.

This webinar will orient participants to trauma theory and the health consequences of trauma, introduce the concept of Trauma-Informed Care and describe its benefits for improving patient experience, quality of care and health outcomes. The discussion will focus on the value of integrating Trauma-Informed Care into both systems of care and the interpersonal or relational style of clinicians and staff. The course will also address methods for implementing Trauma-Informed Care through strategic planning, assessment, and safety planning in order to build a more effective culture of trauma-informed competency.
