First of all, before you try to set up a Chromecast device, make sure you have all the things on this list:
✅ The Chromecast itself
✅ A TV with an HDMI port
✅ An iPhone
✅ The Google Home app or Chromecast remote
✅ A Google account
✅ A stable internet connection

1. We’ll start by plugging in the Chromecast. Turn on the TV and switch the video source to Chromecast. We’ll set it aside for now.
2. Download Google Home. Open the app and click Get started
Sign into your Google account.
3. Okay, now we’re on the “Choose a home” screen. Your username will be on the list, select it.
4. Provide location access to the app by tapping Next.
5. Now Google Home will actually try to find nearby Chromecasts.
6. As soon as your device is found, you will see a confirmation code that must match on your TV and iPhone. Select yes if it matches.
7. Choose the room where the device is located or create a new one. Tap Next.
Your Chromecast is now connected to your network.
8. Accept the final permissions in the app. Tap Finish Tutorial.

Optionally, you can add accounts for various streaming services to Google Home such as YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify. If you’re wondering how to use Chromecast with an iPhone to watch Netflix, here’s a guide:
- Launch Netflix on your iPhone.
- Open a movie or a show episode.
- Look for the “Cast” icon in the top left corner.
- You’ll be presented with a device list, where you should choose the Chromecast.
And that’s all - the media should show up on your TV!

Mirroring 🪞

If you’ve tried Google Home, you may have noticed that there’s no mirroring option there. In fact, the iPhone doesn’t natively stream to Chromecast at all! But there’s still a way - we’ll just use a third-party iOS app, Streamer for Chromecast.
Follow these steps to mirror your iPhone to TV:
1. Download the application from the App Store.
2. Open Streamer and accept the permissions for network and Bluetooth access.
3. Press the red Casting icon in the top right. Choose your Chromecast device.
4. Tap “Screen Mirror”. You’ll see a pop-up with a suggestion to buy the full version. But I suggest using up the three-day trial first. Note that the free trial can only mirror without sound.
5. Go to “Start mirroring” and press “Start broadcast”.
Great! Now the screen of your iPhone is being shown on the TV. You can use this to play games, give presentations, show off photos, and much more.
