Описание к видео Treatment Options for Graves’ Disease | UCLA Endocrine Center

Pouyan Famini, MD, an endocrinologist at the UCLA Endocrine Center, discusses treatment options for Graves' disease in this video.

Anti-thyroid drugs, radioactive iodine and surgery are three options for treating this autoimmune disorder. Anti-thyroid drugs are often the first treatment, as they help to lower the amount of thyroid hormone the thyroid gland produces. Sometimes remission occurs while taking these medications — if that happens, the patient can discontinue use.

Keep in mind that anti-thyroid medications can cause side effects, and in rare cases, they can cause liver and bone marrow problems.
