I spent a lot of time trying to find information on how to install a battery system to run both 110 as well as power my 12v LED interior lights when not connected to the vehicle. Hopefully this helps explain a few things that I found confusing.

The basic premise is as follows:
I have a deep cycle battery that sends power to an inverter for 110v AC and to a fuse block for 12vDC
The fuse block is connected to both positive AND negative battery terminals with 8 AWG wire
The battery is grounded to the frame to complete the circuit for 12v
From the fuse block, I run neutral only to my DC devices as the block is now grounded via the battery and the devices (in this case lights) are individually ground to the frame.
The inverter is connected to the battery with 4AWG cables and must be within a short distance to minimize power loss, and the positive has a fuse (175w)
The battery is charged in some manner. In my case, I used a solar system, but you can use shore power or a battery charger, or even trickle charge via the vehicle if you have enough batteries to store your power.
The solar panels are connected on the roof to extension cables that are cut so you can customize the length and attached to the solar connector panel.
The solar connector is connected to the battery with 8AWG wires

The battery should now have the following connections:
Positive:
4 AWG cable (with fuse) OUT to inverter
8 AWG wire OUT to fuse block
8 AWG wire IN from solar connector
Negative:
4 AWG OUT to inverter
8 AWG OUT to fuse block
8 AWG IN from solar connector
8 AWG GROUND to frame
