XF5F: The Dual-Engine Naval Fighter

Описание к видео XF5F: The Dual-Engine Naval Fighter

The XF5F twin-engine carrier-based fighter was designed in 1938 by Grumman and met the performance requirements set by the US Navy, but was ultimately surpassed by the F4U "Corsair" fighter in terms of speed and armament. As a result, the XF5F prototype was repurposed as an experimental aircraft platform, and Grumman shifted its focus to the development of the XF7F-1 twin-engine carrier-based fighter.

The XF5F had a maximum speed of 616 kilometers per hour at sea level, a maximum altitude of 11000 meters, and a maximum range of 1800 kilometers, but was ultimately overshadowed by the superior performance of the F4U "Corsair" fighter, leading to the XF5F prototype being repurposed and Grumman focusing on the development of the XF7F-1 twin-engine carrier-based fighter.
