How Plants Disperse Their Seeds

The various qualities of fruits and seeds, their colours, shapes, flavours and scent, are tightly related to the means of dispersal or dissemination of their parent plants.

Many types of animals, one of the best dispersal agents, are attracted to the flavour and scent of the fruits which after consumption excrete the indigestible seeds away from its origins. Some seeds even have a barbed surface to latch themselves onto the passing animals.

Seeds dispersal by winds or water may not be as delicious and aromatic but ingenious still. The seeds develop parachutes and wings and impermeable coatings to keep them afloat as long as possible for the best chance of dispersal and survivability.
