S2 E2 Quickpress Modern Age Comic Books by KaptainMyke. This video focuses on how to quickpress modern age comic books from 2002-Present.

MODERN AGE QUICKPRESS METHOD
(Dynamite, IDW, BOOM!, Avatar, Antarctic Press, Devil's Due, DC Comics and Marvel Comics)
Pressing 2002-2019 modern age comic books with glossy covers and glossy thin interior pages can be pressed very quickly and reliably well with confidence using this method which only takes a few hours instead of 24 hours. You can press at least 4-5 books a day using this method. The process works by flash heating the covers and pages then letting the book gradually cool back down. This is very effective for covers that have pressure dents or wavy bends or finger bends to cover and first few pages of interior.

Warning: The "Stan Lee tribute comics" from 2019, Retailer Preview Issues, along with some smaller independent press comic books and crowdfunded books from Ka-Blam!, Indy Planet or Kickstarter will melt pages to card stock and backer boards. Pages WILL fuse and damage books permanently.

Testing should always be done first on a book you are not sure of... If you spot all black pages near cover, inside covers black ink, or thin wavy all black or dark inked pages....proceed with caution. With that said, this method has been tested safely on "most" modern age DC and Marvel comic books.

You will need: Steel Plates, High Temperature of 165 degrees, 65 lb card stock paper, magazine backer boards, and SRP paper. Please review the images below to build your bookstacks. This is also the same manner as a spine ticked damaged book using steel plates and cardstock. This does not cover HUMIDITY or DAMP BOOKS. Process is pretty much the same, just keep humidity to a minimum. You can and should steam the spine if you want to. Just slide cardstock and srp under cover and 1st wrap to prevent rest of book getting damp. Do the same for under rear cover as well. Steam liberally, but do not get water spots on cover.

THIS PRESSES THE TOP HALF OF BOOK ONLY
In my experience, most "good" to "average" quality moderns coming from Marvel, DC, Image, and Dynamite can be pressed safely at 165F for 280-300 seconds. Only catch is that is presses the top half of the book. That's why you must flip the book and do the "other half". The process takes a total of 4 hours, vs 24 hrs.

LARGE STAPLES PRESS THROUGH COVER
If you press too hard and the staples are large with large prongs, you will drive the staples through front cover. You will see staple bumps. This can be difficult to repair but as long as there is no color breaks or color rub on front cover, you have a chance to fix it. You will need to repress, with much lighter pressure, so back down the adjustment knob - then, you should place 1 sheet of copy paper underneath the first 5 pages of book. Place 1 sheet of 65 lb cardstock under front cover with the 1st sheet of copy paper. Repress book but this time make sure you use 2 magazine backer boards at centerfold, or use 110 cardstock before and after centerfold magazine backer board. When you flip the book, be sure to replace ALL paperstock to push out any remaining bumps on cover. Protect those staples!
