On June 14, 2025, Athens Police Officer Young was on patrol when he observed a vehicle stopped in a parking lot, but it was not in the same direction as the parking lines. As he approached the vehicle, he noticed that engine was still running and the driver was slumped forward in the driver's seat. He knocked on the window several times in order to wake up the 21-year-old driver. The police report indicates that Officer Young could smell alcohol emitting from the vehicle. He asked the women to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. At the conclusion of the tests, the woman was placed under arrest for having physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence. She was transported to the Athens police station, where she agreed to submit to a breath test. The result was 0.157% BAC, nearly twice the legal limit.
