Cardiff's Winter Wonderland is a major annual event that takes place across two central locations: Cardiff Castle and City Hall Lawn. Entry to both sites is free, and visitors pay for individual attractions, food, and drinks. The 2025 event runs from Thursday, 13 November 2025, to Sunday, 4 January 2026.
Locations & Attractions
Cardiff Castle (CF10 3RB): This site hosts the main undercover ice rink and the scenic Ice Walk which weaves through the castle grounds, offering a unique skating experience under the Norman Keep. It also features the Tafarn Tipi Bar and a festive lantern display.
City Hall Lawn (CF10 3ND): This area is home to the family funfair, including the iconic Big Wheel that provides panoramic views of the city's Christmas lights. Visitors can also find the cozy Sur La Piste Alpine Lodge Bar, various food and drink stalls, and an undercover entertainment area.
Tickets & Booking
Entry to the sites is free, but you need to book tickets in advance for specific attractions to avoid disappointment, especially during peak times.
Ice Skating & Ice Walk: Tickets must be pre-booked online, with prices starting from £11 for children (off-peak) and £13.50 for adults (peak times). A 60-minute session is usually included in the ticket price.
Big Wheel: Tickets can be booked in advance online, costing around £6.50 for adults and £4.25 for children under 1.4m.
Funfair Rides: These operate on a token system, with each token costing £1. Rides typically range from two to six tokens each. Tokens are purchased on-site.
Food & Drink
A wide array of festive food and drink is available at stalls across both locations.
Enjoy seasonal treats like mulled wine, hot chocolate, roasted marshmallows, and various sweet and savoury snacks.
