1. Add a new transition
In OBS click the + button under Scene Transitions section. This is usually in the lower right section of the main OBS screen. (In older versions of OBS, click the scene transitions drop down menu and select "Add: Stinger")

2. Select the transition type
Select the "Stinger" option from the menu that appears. In OBS matte transitions are considered a type of stinger transition.

3. Name the Transition
A window will pop up to allow you to enter whatever name you'd like for the transition.

4. Select the Video File
Another window will pop up with the rest of the settings for this transition. Click "Browse" to open the file explorer where you can browse to and select the video file you want to use.

5. Set the transition point
The transition point for a matte transition decides when the audio will switch from scene to scene, usually
halfway through.

6. Set up the Track Matte Check the "Use a Track Matte" checkbox below the transition settings. Set the mask type from the "Mask Layout" drop down menu.

7. Preview and Save the transition
Scroll down to bottom of the transition settings window to see the "Preview Transition" button that will allow you to quickly see if everything works. When you're done click the "OK" button to save the transition.

8. Use the Transition
Now that the transition is all set up you can see it under the "Scene Transitions" section in the lower right of the main screen as the currently selected transition. To use the transition, switch between scenes in the "Scenes" section in the lower left of the main screen. The transition will play automatically any time you switch between scenes.
