This panel is based on an article by Kerry Manders for the New York Times, Style Magazine called (full title) “The Renegades: Queer culture and the arts would be much poorer without the presence and contribution of butch and stud lesbians, whose identity is both its own aesthetic and a defiant repudiation of the male gaze”.

We will explore fashion as an expression of masculinities in queer female/trans identities. The idea of pants and pockets comments on masculinity and functionality of clothing, performance/work, mobility, the body, and sexuality.

Join the author Kerry Manders along with moderator Casey Legler, former Olympian, professional model and writer - who broke stereotypes as the only female model to model men’s clothing exclusively for major fashion houses. Roberta Colindrez - Mexican-American actress and writer known for originating the role of Joan in the musical Fun Home, and featured in the TV shows I Love Dick and Vida along with numerous other credits in film, television and theatre, and Tiona Nekkia McClodden, is an award-winning interdisciplinary research-based conceptual visual artist, filmmaker, and curator whose work explores and critiques issues at the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and social commentary.
