FWDs are usually considered less capable than RWD or AWD on wet and slippery surfaces. This shows up mainly in slower and more technical passages, where the front wheels have a hard time finding traction when exiting corner. The Hyundai i20 N uses a mechanical self-locking differential, which eliminates all these negatives of FWDs. In fact in fast passages it is even more dynamic than some more powerful RWDs. Controlling the car is very easy and feels predictable thanks to the differential, well-adjusted dampers and steering. In addition, thanks to the LSD again, this light hatch reacts sensationally to the gas pedal, which enables perfect control over the weight of the car. Conclusion? A limited-slip differential is absolutely necessary for sporty driving with FWD!
