A greedy lumber baron, arrives in Northern California to exploit the redwood forest. He quickly clashes with the local Quakers, who believe the trees are sacred and should be protected. His greed and ambition will lead to conflict and tragedy.

1952 American lumberjack Western film starring Kirk Douglas and directed by Felix E. Feist. It was Kirk Douglas's final film for Warner Brothers, a film he did for free in exchange for the studio agreeing to release him from his long-term contract.

A successful lumberman travels to California to expand his business. He arrives in the town where he meets the leader of a Quaker community that has settled on the land. He quickly learns that the Quakers are a peaceful people who have a deep respect for the land. They believe that the redwood trees are sacred and should be protected and he is only interested in the trees for their financial value. While trying to achieve his goal, his destiny will take a turn as now he has a target on his back.

Footage from Warner Brothers' 1938 Technicolor film Valley of the Giants is used throughout The Big Trees. Kirk Douglas is a Golden Globe Winner for Best Actor in Lust for Life (1956) an Oscar Winner for Honorary Award for 50 Years in movies, and a Hollywood Film Awards Winner for the Lifetime Achievement Award.
