The five judges for the Caesarstone Student Designer 2013 competition met together in Johannesburg to evaluate the entries from the competition. Dorothy van't Riet, Greg Wright, Janina Masojada, Lisa Younger and Jonathan Anstey selected the top 9 finalists and the top three entries. Philip Fouche from Emporio was the mediator of the competition. Finalists came from Design Time, NMMU, BHC School of Design, University of Johannesburg, Tshwane University of Technology, Potchefstroom Academy.

Students were given the brief in 2012. The competition is included in many design faculties' curricula, then the top 5 designs from each faculty are entered into the competition. Students get oversight from their lecturers. The competition is a great way to give design and architecture institutions exposure and to give students exposure to what a brief might be like as a professional designer.
