Gestational Diabetes and mental health

Описание к видео Gestational Diabetes and mental health

25 week gestational diabetes scan day.

Some people choose not to do the test because they don’t want to ingest that much sugar. I like to put it in perspective - it’s the equivalent of 1 can of coke to keep you and baby monitored. So I’ve always done it.

On my second pregnancy I got a positive diagnosis, which meant I had to record a blood reading 3 times a day and record what I ate. Again, not really a big deal.

Except that it was for me.

It triggered awful memories of food obsessions (eating disorders) from my teens and 20s and I found myself quite distressed by the whole situation. On reviewing the records I’d made they concluded I probably didn’t have gestational diabetes, so I was spared the recording for the last few weeks. But it left me feeling rattled.

This doesn’t mean I don’t believe in the test. Rather, it causes me to look at the trauma of an eating disorder and commit to working hard to give my daughters a strong sense of who they are and their worth 💖 but the forces against us are pretty strong.

Sending hugs to anyone who has battled with what they eat - my guess is it’s more people than we would think 💔
