The video presents a comparison of simulation and experimental results for an American test of German 88mm Pzgr.39/43. This simulation was used to calibrate material properties to match the experiments as well as possible, increasing confidence in the numerical model.

To match the experiment as closely as possible, the impact velocities are set to the respective ballistic limits from the data. This means the impact velocity is not equal between the three impacts. -This is not a comparison of the 88mm's performance at different angles for a specific range, rather a direct comparison to the experimental data, where the nominal penetration and projectile deformation/fracture can be assessed.

All three projectiles have identical material properties, with a variable hardness of ~450BHN at the base, to ~650BHN at the nose. Generally, the projectile deformation/fracture is similar to the experimental results, however the nose breaks off at the end of the 0° impact, which was not seen in the experiments. The ballistic limits align with the experiments well, where the 0° and 30° impacts result in Naval penetration being achieved, while the 55° plate results in Protection penetration being achieved.

The Rolled Homogenous Armour (RHA) plate hardnesses follow the experiments, where the 0° and 30° plates are 220BHN, with the 55° one being 250BHN. The low hardness of the former two result in relatively ductile hole formation, particularly at 0°.

This simulation represents the current state of the material models for RHA and hardened steel, however improvements will continuously be made.
