Join me on a solo catfishing trip down the Cumberland River on a gorgeous Friday during Labor Day weekend. Starting with netting yellow bass and massive gizzard shad (up to 13 inches!), we hit the river channel ledges in 40-50ft depths with water temps at 81-82°F. Using planer boards and big hooks with shad heads, I landed 5 fish: 3 channel cats (up to 5lbs) and 2 blues (around 7-10lbs), plus epic doubles and a boat nearly running over my planer board. Missed several bites from small fish swiping at oversized bait. All fish released healthy. Perfect day on the water – tips on bait prep, setups, and handling deep-water fights included.
