This animation demonstrates the simulation of the plug-assisted thermoforming process of a polypropylene cup using Finite Element Analysis methods. The software used in this simulation is ABAQUS Standard. The model uses the Large Strain Thermally Coupled (LSTC) model for polypropylene, which has been developed at the University of Bradford and Queen's University Belfast as a user subroutine. The animation shows the 1.23mm thick polypropylene sheet material, at 155deg.C being stretched by a plug, prior to inflation into a mould.
