The criminal right is an important part of the doctrine of right. It's all the more unfortunate that in Kant's work it's utterly insufficient: He supports a punishment of avangement which is to reinstitute the justice broken by the crime. In this he loses sight of the proper task of right: To secure the freedom of men.
