Tamiya TT-02B Project: Carbon Towers, Turn-Buckles & DF-03/DT-02 MS Shocks! (Episode 9)

Описание к видео Tamiya TT-02B Project: Carbon Towers, Turn-Buckles & DF-03/DT-02 MS Shocks! (Episode 9)

Time for some Tamiya excellence! Let's try out the original Tamiya TT-02B Carbon Towers together with a set of fully adjustable turn-buckles for the Tamiya TT-02B 1/10 4WD RC Car Buggy: the Tamiya Neo Scorcher, Tamiya Plasma Edge II and Tamiya Dual Ridge. Uhh ... and let's add a cherry-on-the-top. Or four of them actually. Welcome to Episode 9 of the ongoing TT-02B project. Created especially for the real TT-02B enthusiast!

Notes to the upgrades:

So, why change the shock towers? Well, the stock and flexible soft plastic towers equals durability, so if you run your TT-02B hard, with a lot of crashes, my guess is that the plastic towers will last longer than the carbon upgrade. But while flex in the towers is good for durability and crashes it's not really good for stability and performance. And since this one will see a lot of speed tests on road it's really the perfect upgrade for this project. Well, and then there is the obvious benefit: Five different mounting options compared to one.

The downside of the carbon upgrade however, is that if you got a Dual Ridge body or a Neo Scorcher wing you will need to trim them. I suspect the Plasma Edge II body and wing is the only set that fits completely.

At the same time the package comes with turn-buckles for the front and rear (not the steering though) for easy camber setting. I must admit though, that the type with the ball ends is not my favorite. They have a tendency to pop off during landings or crashes. But again, since I have high hopes that this particular unit is not going to be involved in serious crashes, it fits this project.

What about the shocks? Sometimes, in these Tamiya projects, I am really divided between 'looks' versus 'performance'. For me, the looks, the visual side, is a very important aspect of my hobby. I am not a racer. So this time I opted for some Tamiya DF-03/DT-02 MS Shocks (the TRF upgrade for the DT-02 MS) that were mounted on a DT-03 I have. Maybe I will change them later. Or tune them in terms of length and oil. Don't get me wrong, the MS shocks are great, my favorites, but for this 'on road project', the harder and shorter stock ones would perhaps be a better choice (performance wise). I actually did buy and try out a new set of aluminum GPM Racing TT-02B shocks with a perfect hard set-up, but visually, they just looked odd with the other upgrades. Now these are on my DT-03, looking great with other GPM upgrades, but leaving it utterly useless with a much too hard set-up. It's literally like a brick. Well, as said, the visual side is very very important for me. This is all just a good bit of fun.
