In this tutorial we show you how to get started using the AI window in PlantText to generate diagrams, correct errors, transform them, and generate code.

To use the AI window you’ll need to login, then access the AI window from the button in the right toolbar.

If this is your first time using AI in PlantText, you’ll need to read through the Terms of Service when prompted and agree to them by clicking the button at the bottom.

Now, let’s generate a diagram. The AI window provides a variety of sample prompts. For example, it can create class diagrams for any of the popular design patterns. These are just examples though. You can type whatever you like into the prompt. In this case we ask it to generate a use case diagram for a veterinary website. Click the Replace Diagram button to send the AI output to the editor. From there we can refine it further.

Now let’s say we’ve messed up something in the diagram. We’re getting an error, and we’re not sure why. We can have the AI window fix it for us. Go to Modify Diagram, select Validate, and PlantText AI will check for syntax errors and suggest improvements. We’ll send the corrected diagram back to the editor, and voila! We’re back in business.

But we’ve only scratched the surface of what the PlantText AI window can do. Here are a few other examples:
You can generate a variety of code stubs (I’ll be doing a video on that later).
You can generate sample JSON data, which is helpful for testing or just visualizing your JSON.
You can also transform your diagram from one type to another. In this case we transform our use case diagram into a class diagram.

Note the Include Diagram checkbox. Check Include Diagram to send your diagram to the AI, or uncheck it if you prefer not to.

Now let’s talk about tokens. Tokens are a measure of how much AI you’ve used, both the input and the output. Users are limited to a certain number of tokens per week. You can see how many tokens you’ve used at the top of the screen. Tokens reset every Sunday night. PlantText provides an estimate of input tokens. And when the output returns, it shows the tokens used.

Soon PlantText will begin offering a subscription plan that includes additional tokens as well as other premium features.

Finally, let’s take a look at the Advanced Options. You can find them just above the Submit button. These include:
Max output tokens. You may want to set these if you’ve asked a question that’s likely to return a long answer, and you don’t want to use up all your tokens in one go.
Temperature. You can think of this as randomness. A higher temperature allows the model to increase the randomness in its responses. A lower temperature provides more precision.
Top P. You can think of this as a measure of creativity. A higher Top P allows the model to consider options that may be less relevant but more creative.

That wraps it up for our intro to PlantText AI. We hope this gets you excited about this incredible boost to productivity. It’s free to login and give it a go yourself. Thanks for watching!
