"Drop It, Roll It, Whack It, Move It!" is one of the many wonderful Youth Camps offered at the University of Minnesota. This camp embraces the creativity and imagination of students by challenging them to work collaboratively to conceptualize and build a Rube Goldberg Machine, a moving-parts contraption designed to perform a simple task. As a kinetic, hands-on learning experience, student explore a wide range of possibilities allotted by the seemingly magical laws of physics and by engaging with the process of design to engineer a unique, purposeful, large-scale project.

The kids from this week-long camp teamed up to design 7 unique machines, and then connected them to engineer one big machine tasked to ring a bell. The students named the machine "Ding."

Instructor Bio
Before entering the world of architecture, Jody Lawrence was a science teacher! Jody Lawrence is currently a Doctoral Student at the University of Minnesota researching the relationship between built space and creative instruction, where she also teaches design studios and creative problem solving courses.
