Pedro II was the second, and last Emperor of Brazil. He inherited the throne at the age of five, and would, once he had grown up, be able to bring stability to a country plagued by political tensions and uprisings. His reign saw Brazil become a strong, liberal and prosperous nation which could only be matched by the United States at the time.
