► Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror is a 2D adventure game played from a third person perspective. Via a point and click interface, the player guides protagonist George Stobbart through the game's world and interacts with the environment by selecting from multiple commands Nicole Collard is also a playable character in selected portions of the game. The player controls George's movements and actions with a mouse.

► Six months after the events of The Shadow of the Templars, Guide protagonists George Stobbart and his girlfriend Nicole Collard as they unravel the dark mysteries that lead them closer and closer to an ancient horror best left buried in the steamy jungles of Central America.

► Gather clues and make friends, but beware – a smiling face can hide a deadly obstacle in your quest to stop the return of “he who devours the sun and consumes the flesh of all mankind”, the mighty Mayan God, Tezcatlipoca.
Plunge into a shadowy conspiracy world where the schemes of a mad drug kingpin and the prophesied return of an ancient Mayan god clash in what could be the end for all mankind. Race around the globe with George as he frantically attempts to free Nico, his investigative reporter girlfriend, from the clutches of Karzac’s crime cartel.

► Player can collect objects that can be used with either other collectible objects, parts of the scenery, or with other peoples in the game. George can engage in dialogue with other characters through conversation trees to gain hints, to solve the puzzles or to progress the plot. Use a map to travel and new locations are added to it as the story unfolds. The character's death is possible if the player makes a wrong decision.
