i have some things
i’d like to say
about some things
i’ve been hiding
for too long.

i never fit into
any of the spaces
that was supposed to
be made for me.
it seems like everyone
has an idea
how to live
except for me.

itttt started with flappy hands
did a little spinny dance
blurted some words out loud
said some more “did you know?”s
people thought i was letting
my smartness show
i thought i was the “gifted kid”
yet there was something that was hidden inside.

soon enough,
people got tired
of hearing my words.
the spinny dance i’d do,
became still.
and then the “gifted kid”
turned burned out.
i became a ghost,
of who i used to be.

but then i learned
i’m not your expectation
i am me, and that’s okay.

then the spinny dance came back,
and i started to blurt the words i’d say, even louder

and soon, my world, became brighter

i am autistic, that is a-okay, and i wouldn’t have it anyyyy otherrrr wayyyy.
