Flux Turbo Alpha ComfyUI tutorial – quality vs speed comparison and installation.

Following my recent Wan 2.1 image-to-video tutorials, a few people were asking how I generate quality Flux images so quickly on my low VRAM 8GB GPU. If you haven’t watched those tutorials yet, then they’re certainly worth taking a look at.

My go to image generation ComfyUI workflow uses Flux Dev FP8 with the Flux.1 Turbo Alpha ComfyUI LoRA, which I was surprised that most people had never heard of. So for those of you that requested this video, here it is, a quick ComfyUI Flux Turbo comparison and install tutorial, to get you generating high quality Flux images faster on low VRAM GPUs.

I’m aware that there are many other methods, including fast models, low step models, as well as other speed optimisation ComfyUI nodes. But I'm happy with the results that I get in terms of speed and quality using this Flux Turbo ComfyUI LoRA.

These comparison images were all generated with my 8GB GPU. The images on the left were generated using the basic Flux Dev FP8 workflow, and the comparison images on the right, all used the Flux Turbo workflow.

The Flux Turbo LoRA images, on the right, give about a 55% faster generation time, with really no noticeable differences in quality. The comparison images do tend to be slightly different in composition, and sometimes the non-Lora images have finer details, but many times, I actually prefer the Flux Turbo Alpha LoRA results. But that's a personal preference.

The faster generation times are mainly achieved because the Flux Turbo LoRA only requires 8 sampling steps, as opposed to the normal Flux Dev 20-30 recommended steps. For one-off image generations, the difference between a 23 second and a 53 second image generation time is not really a big deal. But when you move up to batch image generations, or have a really low VRAM GPU, then that time difference starts to add up, and becomes a more significant issue.

In this video, we’ll step through the quick and easy Flux Turbo LoRA ComfyUI installation process, grab my modified and simplified free Flux Turbo workflow, and then wrap up with a quick run through of the key settings in the workflow, so you can just get straight on with generating your own Flux images quicker.

If you’ve already been generating images with Flux, then you’ll probably already have most or all of the files and models that we need for the Flux Turbo Alpha workflow. If this is the case, then you can just jump straight past those sections of the video.

I’ll be running through everything on a Windows PC, using ComfyUI Desktop, running an 8GB GPU, 80GB of RAM and an SSD.
