Commerce is the part of business activities which deals with the exchange of goods and services and helps in removing obstacles in the process of distribution.

It connects producers and consumers.

Trade → Buying and selling of goods and services.

Home Trade (within a country)

Foreign Trade (between countries)


Aids to Trade → Services which support trade:

Transport & Communication (movement of goods, information flow)

Banking & Finance (providing money and credit)

Insurance (covering risks)

Warehousing (storage of goods)

Advertising (creating demand and awareness)




3. Difference between Business, Commerce & Trade

Business → Broad term including production + commerce.

Commerce → Distribution of goods/services.

Trade → Actual buying and selling.



4. Importance of Commerce

Provides link between producer & consumer.

Helps in large-scale production.

Creates employment opportunities.

Increases standard of living.

Facilitates growth of industry and economy.
