In this Microsoft Excel video tutorial I demonstrate two ways of creating a percentage progress bar. The first method uses conditional formatting data bars: this is the easiest method.

The second method uses conditional formatting in conjunction with the REPT function. The REPT function repeats a character or characters the number of times you specify. In this scenario we want to repeat the pipe character (|). By repeating the pipe character we can create what looks like a solid bar. We can also apply conditional formatting to the pipe character to change its colour based on other values.
