قضينا يعني سجلنا وكتبنا وأخبرنا في كتابهم
God says: “And We declared to
the Children of Israel in the Scripture,
بأنهم "لتفسدن في الأرض مرتين"
that indeed you will surely do
mischief on the earth twice.”
فسادهم أن يبتعدوا عن هدي توراتهم
Their mischief was that they turned away
from the guidance of their Torah
التي أنزلها الله من السماء.
which God descended from heaven.
فسادهم أن لا يمتثلوا أمر الله والشريعة
Their mischief was that they disobeyed
God’s commands and laws
التي بلغهم إياها سيدنا موسى.
which were conveyed to
them by Prophet Moses.
فسادهم أن ينتقلوا من العلم إلى الجهل
Their mischief was that they moved
from knowledge to ignorance,
ومن العدل إلى الجور
ومن سلطان العلم والإيمان
from justice to injustice,
from righteousness to
إلى سلطان الشهوات والأهواء
إلى البطر، إلى الأشر
following their desires and whims,
showing arrogance and haughtiness,
إلى الكذب إلى الفساد إلى الغش إلى الخديعة.
lying, spreading corruption,
cheating and deceiving others.
"ولتعلن علوا كبيرا"
Then the verse reads: “and you will
surely show utmost haughtiness.”
علو ما علو استعلاء، استكبار، كبر، بطر.
لما النبي قال:
They showed arrogance and ostentation.
Prophet Muhammad says:
"لا يدخل الجنة من كان في قلبه
مثقال ذرة من كبر."
“Anyone who has an atom’s weight of
arrogance in his heart will not enter Paradise.”
قالوا يا رسول الله أمن الكبر لبس الثياب الحسنة؟
أحدنا يحب أن تكون ثيابه حسنة،
سيفه حسنا، نعله حسنا، فرسه حسنا.
A man enquired: “What if one likes
his clothes and shoes to look good?”
قال: "إن الله جميل يحب الجمال."
He said: “Verily, God is
Beautiful and loves beauty.”
تجي على الجامع تكون جميل،
When you come to the mosque,
you take care of your beard, turban,
لحيتك، لفتك، طربوشك، شعرك، ثيابك،
رائحتك،
سلوكك، أدبك.
hair, clothes, smell, behaviour and manners.
"إن الله جميل يحب الجمال
He said: “Verily, God is Beautiful and loves
ولكن الكبر بطر الحق وغمط الناس."
beauty. Arrogance is to reject
the truth and look down on people.”
بطر الحق أن لا ترضى بالحق،
تعرفه فترفضه
Arrogance means that you
know the truth but you reject it
تعرفه فلا تنقاد إليه
لهوى في نفسك،
and you don't submit to it
but rather to your whims.
لطمع، لمال، لجاه، لمظهر.
You are driven by the love of
money, position and appearance.
بدك تكون دائما وراء الحق.
أنت الكسبان.
You should always seek the truth.
If you do that, you will be the winner.
لو خسرت الآن
لكن بتكسب بالمستقبل.
Even if you lose now,
you will win in the future.
أما الذي يترك الحق فلا يذعن إليه
ويهوى الباطل فينقاد إليه
However, whoever discards the truth, doesn't
submit to it, loves falsehood, and is driven by it,
لو كسب الآن، بده يخسر بالمستقبل فينقاد إليه،
even if he wins now will lose in the future.
بده يخسر في الدنيا
قبل الدار الآخرة.
He will lose in worldly life and in the Hereafter.

قال غمط الناس احتقارهم
So, the Prophet is saying that
arrogance means despising people.
تحتقره لفقره، تحتقره لأنك
أكثر منه مالا،
Do not despise people because
you have more money or knowledge
جاها، علما.
or a better position than them.
لا يا ابني التواضع هو مصيدة الشرف
تواضع. النبي عليه الصلاة والسلام
Humility is honor. Be humble.
Although Prophet Muhammad,
مع أنه بأمر الله كان سيد ولد آدم
peace be upon him, was the master
of the children of Adam by God's will,
مع ذلك كان يأتيه الكافر
فيخلع ثوبه وردائه
فيضعه ليجلس عليه
he used to take off his garment,
put it on the ground to let a pagan
والنبي يجلس على التراب.
sit on it while he sat on soil.
