There is a small but significant chapel. High up on the mountain, it is dedicated to the Madonna del Ghisallo, the patron saint of cyclists. The story begins after the Second World War. The local priest was called Don Vigano. One day, he noticed that more and more cyclists were visiting his chapel, taking a break and praying. This gave him the idea of asking Pope Pius XII to name the Madonna del Ghisallo the patron saint of cyclists. His wish was granted a short time later. Since 1949, the Madonna has been officially the patron saint of cyclists, and stages of the major Italian cycling tours often pass by the chapel. Bronze busts of Italian cycling legends greet visitors in the forecourt. A monument shows a winner raising his fist to the sky, next to a loser crouching on the ground in disappointment. The really interesting thing only becomes apparent to visitors once they are inside the chapel. The side walls are full of jerseys, pennants, pictures and trophies of great cyclists. And above them are the bikes of some cycling legends. The most impressive is certainly the bike of Eddie Merks, the five-time winner of the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia. Next to it is the bike of Fabio Casartelli, with which he had a fatal accident in the 1995 Tour de France.

But the cycling greats have not only immortalized themselves in the church through mementos. They also regularly came and still come to the chapel to pray.

Many of the professional cyclists are religious people and they have donated their jerseys and bikes to the church out of great gratitude. They trust that God accompanies them in their lives, but especially on their tours.
