I'm back! After more than a year of absence from YouTube because of touring and teaching, I'm back with a new drum cover! Like many of my covers, I have been wanting to do this one for a long time. But as usual, I wanted to make sure it was perfect before posting it. That means in its performance as played on the record, a nice audio mixing of the song and the drums and the video capture.

Being a child of the 80's, I have an unconditional love for its music, and this of course is one of the best songs ever recorded from that period. But most importantly, it is one of the most interesting beats I have ever heard.

The triplets from the hi-hat are split in 2, while the kick does a shuffle, with the snare on 2 and 4. But even more, challenging is all fills are done WHILE the hi-hat continues! Beware, you may go cross-eyed on this if you try. I know I did the first few times I tried! The trick is to practice the hi-hat as an ostinato and practice your snare hand to play either with the hi-hat accents or against them. Once you're comfortable with that, then you can try the beat. Then you mustn't forget that you have to feel the quarter note at all times for it to groove. Got it? Good, now go practice. it's a great song and an awesome groove. :)
