This is a 4K walk to see what life is like in Durham City Centre 2021. We begin this Durham City Tour on Palace Green right outside Durham Castle and Durham Cathedral, and take a look at the historic buildings and this Unesco World Heritage site.

The Castle and Cathedral loom right over Durham England, being situated at the top of a hill overlooking the River Wear and the city centre, making it a great focal point when you visit the City.

As we head downhill from Palace Green our route goes down Owengate, onto Saddler Street, down to Durham Market Place and Silver Street before heading onto Framwellgate Bridge overlooking the River Wear.

Durham is a city in northeast England, south of Newcastle upon Tyne. The River Wear loops around the Romanesque Durham Cathedral and Norman Durham Castle. North of the castle, 13th-century, medieval Crook Hall is home to gardens and a maze. South of the river, Durham University offers a Botanic Garden with woodland and tropical plants, and the Oriental Museum exhibiting Asian, Egyptian and Middle Eastern artefacts.

Durham Cathedral has been a place of worship, welcome and hospitality for almost a millennium, inspiring all who come. Built in 1093 to house the Shrine of St Cuthbert, Durham Cathedral is renowned for its magnificent Romanesque architecture and spectacular location at the heart of the Durham World Heritage Site. It is also the resting place of the Venerable Bede.

Durham Castle, together with the Cathedral, was awarded the status of a World Heritage Site in 1986 providing international recognition for this unique, historic and scenic site. Standing side by side on a prominent hill top site and encircled by the wooded slopes of the meandering River Wear, the Castle overlooks the medieval City of Durham with its fascinating narrow streets.
