Ohio families are gearing up for the back-to-school season with the state's extended Sales Tax Holiday, which runs from Friday, August 1, through Thursday, August 14. This year, the holiday spans two full weeks, providing a timely opportunity for central Ohio families to save on essential school supplies.

Bethal Road Walmart representative said, "There was a survey done recently, where we learned that 70% of our Walmart shoppers are actually going to be looking for those deals. Hunting for discount more than ever this year. So we wanna make sure that we have everything in place for them so they get the best deals."

The store has over 200 rollback items in the back-to-school supply section, with more than 100 items priced under one dollar and over 1,000 items under five dollars.

According to the National Retail Federation, the average kindergarten through 12th-grade shopper will spend $858 on back-to-school items this year.

The sales tax holiday is not limited to school supplies. Almost all tangible items priced at $500 or less will be tax-free, including gadgets like laptops and iPads, as well as sporting goods, apparel, food, and drinks.

Governor Mike DeWine said, "The timing of this year’s sales tax holiday not only supports families preparing for back-to-school, but also provides relief on other important household needs."

However, some items are excluded from the tax-free list, including alcohol, tobacco and vape products, any items containing marijuana, and larger ticket items such as motor vehicles and watercraft.
