Dominions new plant will be capable of generating 585 MW of electricity using circulating fluidized bed boilers.

It is expected to be in service by 2012.



There is always a lot of talk about plants like this and how dirty they may be. However if you really want to see what dirty looks like, check out a coal fired power plant in China or India. They will soon be burning more coal than the United States and not investing in emissions reducing equipment such as precipitators, baghouses or scrubbers. The American Economy, Industry and the Environment can actually be negatively impacted by more stringent emissions regulations in the US. This occurs because relatively clean plants will either have to pay more for the emissions they do produce or shut down. Since most consumers will still demand the product, many companies will open a plant in a country where emissions regulations are nearly non-existent and labor is cheap, a place like China. There they will manufacture the product needed, yet release much more emissions than an equivalent US based plant. The result is a net world increase in emissions, less US jobs and higher costs for the final product.

Lastly, for power there are very few REAL choices to allow us to continue to use the amount of energy that we do. Solar and wind power are touted as the revolutionary saving grace that will be able to eliminate the need for coal, but this simply isn't the case. You simply can not generate the amount of power needed for our nation with solar or wind power. To best reduce emissions and to produce the amount of power that we require requires nuclear power.
