In this video, Mia and I make a quick pit stop at the Bunnyhenge sculpture on our way to Newport Bay.
Bunnyhenge is located in the sculpture garden at the Newport Beach Civic Center. It is located up the hill from the Civic center, near the corners of San Miguel Dr. and Avocado Ave.
We'll be taking a look at this fun sculpture and digging into a little bit of its controversial history, in which a local politician, Scott Peotter, actually made the removal of these beloved bunnies a campaign platform. I managed to find some footage of one of his old campaign ads where he actually used special effects to blow the heads off the bunnies. Boo. (link below)
Well, over six years later, the bunnies are still standing and the voters of Newport Beach sent Peotter packing in 2018.
