Svečana pesma (Ceremonial Song) - Yugoslav Anthem Proposal

Описание к видео Svečana pesma (Ceremonial Song) - Yugoslav Anthem Proposal

"Svečana pesma" is a composition proposed for the anthem of the Federative People's Republic of Yugoslavia at the session of the Socialist Union of the Working People of Yugoslavia in 1959. The text of the anthem was written by the Yugoslav poet Mira Alečković, while the melody was taken from the earlier work called "New Yugoslavia" (1946) by the famous Yugoslav composer Nikola Hercigonja. The anthem, although officially proposed, was rejected due to being too unitarist. As a temporary solution, until 1988, the pan-Slavic song "Hey, Slavs" was kept unofficially.

However, "Svečana pesma" was used in a same level as the national anthem until 1988, being played after "Hey, Slavs" on big national events.
