NDPP Central Agri & Allied Organisation Installs New Team for 2024–2027 Term

Advisor Mhathung Yanthan Stresses Policy Inputs, Technology-Driven Farming

Kohima, July 22:
The Central Agriculture & Allied Organisation of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) held its Installation-cum-1st General Meeting (2024–2027) today at the NDPP Headquarters Conference Hall, Kohima. The new team, led by Y. Vikheho Swu as President, was officially installed by Rev. Dr. Kevichalie Metha, Pastor of Peraciezie Baptist Church, Kohima.

Gracing the event as the Special Guest, Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Agriculture, termed agriculture as the “backbone and lifeline” of Nagaland’s economy. He announced that a State Agricultural Policy is currently being drafted, and encouraged the organisation to contribute constructively through policy inputs and grassroots consultation.

Yanthan urged the newly appointed members to serve as facilitators between farmers and the government, advocating for a mindset shift to view farming as a dignified and business-oriented profession. He highlighted that Nagaland’s organic produce has high demand but warned of pressing challenges such as rural migration, aging farming population, lack of infrastructure, and climate change impacts.

“Climate change is real and it’s affecting agriculture in irreversible ways. We must reorient our traditional systems and embrace technology-driven practices to ensure sustainability,” Yanthan said.

Leadership’s Vision for Inclusive Growth

In his presidential address, Vikheho Swu expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, NDPP President Chingwang Konyak, and Secretary-General Abu Metha for their trust and support. He underlined the Organisation’s commitment to act as a bridge between the public and the government, ensuring effective delivery of agri-related schemes to genuine beneficiaries.

Linking NDPP’s mission with the national Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, Swu called for the active participation of youth, entrepreneurs, farmers, and communities to transform Nagaland into a “State of Excellence.”

Support from Party Wings

Renboni Kikon, General Secretary of the NDPP Central Women’s Organisation, lauded the move as a sign of inclusive and sustainable development. She pledged to collaborate with the Agri team for more farmer-centric efforts.

Imchatoba Imchen, President of the NDPP Central Youth Organisation, urged the new team to focus on grassroots-level execution of government schemes, ensuring benefits reach real farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.

The event was chaired by K. Mangyangpula Chang, Vice President of the Organisation, with prayers led by Wongto Chollen Chang. Y. Mhonimo Ngullie introduced the members, while Kius Chuba presided over the business session. Special music was presented by Nguvili Assumi, and the vote of thanks was delivered by General Secretary Minkamlak. Weprede Kenye and Rukravolie Rulho served as recorders.
