But for every charming malcontent there exists an equal and opposite vile saint. These individuals may appear ugly, cruel, or even warped, but the person behind the exterior is far nobler than any common lord or lady. In A Song of Ice and Fire, no greater example exists of this occurrence than Sandor Clegane. Hello everyone, and welcome back to Exploring Fiction. Nicknamed the Hound and scarred by a childhood incident, Sandor Clegane is rough around the edges. True to his name, he possesses both bark and bite, with less of a mind for manners and knighthood than almost anyone across the Seven Kingdoms. He is crass, ruthless, and spiteful, cynical and pessimistic due to all he has experienced in his dreadful life. And yet, there lies the heart of a good man beneath it all. Sandor Clegane displayed multiple times across the narrative his penchant for virtue, further proving that outward appearances are hardly what they seem.
