Snout Bus: The Story of East Germany's Bulbous Double Decker Buses [German Bus History]

Описание к видео Snout Bus: The Story of East Germany's Bulbous Double Decker Buses [German Bus History]

Germany has always utilized double-decker buses. One feature that was distinctive about many of them were their long engine hoods out front.

This was taken to the extreme, somewhat, in the 1950s with East Germany's type Do 54 and Do 56 buses (Do = Doppledecker). With these new buses, East Berlin and numerous other cities in the GDR were able to start replacing their pre-war fleet, much of which were in quite a bad condition.

A similar pattern of design was carried out with these buses in which a very large engine hood or bonnet was placed in front of the bus. Its look was quite distinctive, and is unmistakable to any other type of bus.

See and hear the story of the Do 54 and Do 56 type double decker buses of the GDR!
