Описание к видео Some sensory tactics we use to help our sweet pea who is stimming.

Hi, I’m Dana and I have been a pediatric physical therapist for 25 years. You can read more about my practice at the top of my channel. I see kids for a lot of different disabilities including developmental delay, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, genetic disorders, dystrophies, and more. I cannot give individualized medical advice on social media and you need your doctors permission to try any exercises with your child. A therapist needs to be trained in order to perform these highly skilled exercises.

I see kids for intensives in Cary, North Carolina for 1,2, or 3 weeks for 2 visits per day. We are able to show a lot of progress with our little patients and I share that to bring hope to other parents around the world. You can find booking information at the link at the top of my channel. I don’t share diagnoses or personal info of each child on my page because kids are defined by their diagnosis. It’s my philosophy and you can read more about it on my website which is linked at the top of my channel.

Ever wondered what a sensory diet is? It's not about food but about helping children regulate their sensory experiences. Whether a child is overstimulated and needs calming or sluggish and needs energy, a sensory diet can make a big difference. Watch this video to discover various sensory activities that can help your child feel more alert and balanced.

Remember, there's a wide range of sensory activities to explore, and just because we can't cover them all in one minute doesn't mean they're not worth trying. For instance, compression garments might not work for everyone, but there are plenty of other strategies to consider.

It's crucial to consult with a doctor or therapist specialized in sensory integration before implementing a sensory diet. They can provide personalized guidance tailored to your child's needs.

Stimming, or self-stimulatory behavior, is common in children with developmental delays. It often stems from a craving for sensory input, such as vestibular stimulation. Understanding your child's sensory needs is key to helping them thrive.

Don't forget, the sensory system encompasses more than just touch – it also involves sight, smell, sound, taste, balance, proprioception, and interoception. Have you tried any of these activities with your child when they're feeling overwhelmed or having trouble calming down? Share your experiences in the comments below, and let's support each other on this sensory journey! #physicaltherapy #childdevelopment #newmom
