How to Calibrate the Compass of crossflight and GPS TS100?
Here is a mini GPS,RadioLink TS100. Connect it to GPS port of crossflight.
There are 2 tips when calibrating the compass with GPS.
Please fix the GPS and flight controller together when compass calibration. There is an arrow on GPS, and also the crossflight. The two arrows should point in the same direction. If the arrow direction of GPS and crossflight is different, the calibration will never be successful.
For compass calibration, please make sure the arrow direction of GPS and flight controller is the same. And they two are fixed together.
Now, connect crossflight to the computer via a USB cbale. Keep crossflight still and wait for the self-check to complete. Select the COM port. The baud rate is 115, 200. (Note: Baud rate is 115, 200 for USB cable, and 57600 for telemetry module.)
Then click CONNECT. Now connected. Click SETUP-- Mandatory Hardware--Compass
We can see there are two compasses.
The first one is built-in compass, which stands for crossflight.
The second one is external compass, which stands for your GPS.
Click Start to calibrate the compass.
Hold tightly of crossflight and GPS. Then turn them in all directions in the air. When the red bar reaches the end, there will be a notice. Click OK.
When installing crossflight and GPS on helicopter or fixed wing, some people will install the two devices like this, with crossflight pointing forward, and GPS pointing backward in the tail. And it can also keep flight controller and GPS far away from the frame.
In this case, we need to modify parameters in Full Parameter List.
Config--Full Parameter List-- We need to search COMPASS_ORIENT.
COMPASS_ORIENT stands for the compass of crossflight.
COMPASS_ORIENT2 stands for the compass of GPS. Please modify COMPASS_ORIENT2, and select YAW180.
Here are some parameters related to Yaw.It is the orientation of the first external compass relative to the vehicle frame. For example, Yaw MEANS GPS rotates 45 degrees clockwise
When crossflight points forward, while GPS points backward, the GPS rotates 180 degree clockwise. So need to select Yaw180.
Click WRITE PARAMS to save the modification.
Go back to compass, we can see the orientation here is Yaw180 now.
Then we can calibrate the compass. And when calibrating, we should make sure the arrow of crossflight points forward, and GPS points backward. The calibration method is the same. Turn them in all directions. And click OK when the red bar reaches the end.
So that’s all about How to calibrate the compass of crossflight with TS100 GPS.
