VIDEO: Directly opposite the Table of Shewbread on the north side of the Holy Place, we find the Lampstand placed to the south. With 7 lamps, 22 cups, and 66 total decorations, this lampstand not only relates to the Holy Spirit, represented as the 7 spirits of God before the throne in Revelation, but it also has ties to the Word of God and the 66 books of the Bible. The symbolism of the Lampstand is quite overwhelming, as we also consider Jesus walking amongst the lampstands in the Heavenly Temple, which are defined as the 7 churches. The earthly lampstand was made of pure gold, hammered from a single piece of gold, and was filled with pure oil to fuel the light. In a similar way, the faith of the church is likened to gold (1 Peter 1:7), and the church is a unified body (1 Peter 3:8). In addition, believers are sealed and filled with the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 1:21-22), and as a result, believers are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14), in resemblance of the Savior who is also the light of the world (John 8:12). Is it any wonder, then, that on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2 that as believers were filled with the Holy Spirit, tongues of fire manifested on their heads? What a beautiful portrayal of the church as a living lampstand!
