Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Save Excel Workbook as Invoice Template.

Welcome back to the MrExcel Netcast. In yesterday's video, we discussed how to get a free invoice template from Office Online. Today, we're going to take it a step further and customize the template to make it even more efficient. I've made some changes to the template, such as adding my state's tax rate and creating formulas to automatically populate the "Bill To" and "Ship To" columns. Now, I want to be able to easily create new invoices using this template. So, let's learn how to save it as a template.

Instead of saving the template as a regular workbook, we're going to do "File" and then "Save as" and choose "Template" from the drop-down menu. This will automatically change the navigation to "Application Data Microsoft Office Templates". I'm going to name the template "Invoice.xlt" and save it. Now, whenever I need to create a new invoice, I can simply go to "File" and then "New" and choose "Templates" and then "On my computer". From there, I can select "Invoice.xlt" and click "OK" to get a brand new template.

But, we're not done yet. In tomorrow's video, we'll learn how to make the invoice number automatically increment each time we create a new invoice. This will save us time and effort in the long run.
