Описание к видео Indian Army Issues 30000 Crore Tender For Indigenous Anant Shastra Missile System

Indian Army Issues 30000 Crore Tender For Indigenous Anant Shastra Missile System

The Indian Army has issued a massive tender worth approximately ₹30,000 Crore (approximately $3.5 billion) to acquire the indigenous Anant Shastra surface-to-air missile (SAM) system.

This procurement is a significant push for military indigenisation and is aimed at dramatically modernizing the Army’s air defence capabilities along the critical northern and western borders.

Here is a breakdown of the Anant Shastra system, the tender, and its strategic significance:

1. The Anant Shastra Missile System
Feature Details
System Name Anant Shastra (formerly known as Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile or QRSAM)
Development Developed by the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation).
Procurement Tender issued to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) as the lead integrator, with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) co-producing the missiles.
Indigenous Content High indigenisation, with over 90% indigenous content, aligning with the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative.
Scale of Order For five to six regiments (or three full regiments in the first phase) of the system.

2. Key Operational Features
The Anant Shastra is a highly mobile, all-weather missile system designed specifically to protect advancing ground troops and mechanized combat formations.

Parameter Capability
Mobility The defining feature is its "search, track, and fire at short halt" capability. The entire system (radars, command posts, and launchers) is mounted on high-mobility 8x8 vehicles, allowing it to move seamlessly with tanks and artillery columns across various terrains (plains, deserts, mountains).
Range & Altitude Operational range of approximately 30 km (short-to-medium range), designed to intercept targets at altitudes of 6-10 km.
Target Interception Capable of detecting and neutralizing modern aerial threats, including: Fighter Jets, Attack Helicopters, Cruise Missiles, Drones, Swarm Drones, and Loitering Munitions.
Integration It is integrated with the Army’s ‘Akashteer’ automated command and control network for a unified air defence picture.

3. Strategic Significance for the Indian Army

Protection of Mechanized Formations: The system fills a critical gap by providing a mobile air defence shield for the Army’s armoured and mechanized columns. Existing long-range systems often defend fixed installations or cities, while Anant Shastra will protect troops on the move in forward areas.

Border Fortification: The regiments will be deployed along the sensitive Northern (China) and Western (Pakistan) borders to counter the evolving threat landscape, particularly the increasing use of advanced drones and missiles by adversaries.

Replacing Legacy Systems: It will replace old, less-agile, and vulnerable Soviet-era air defence systems like the OSA-AK and 2K12E Kvadrat, significantly upgrading the Army’s short-range response time and effectiveness.

Boost to Defence Ecosystem: The ₹30,000 crore deal is one of the largest indigenous Army Air Defence projects, providing a massive boost to the domestic defence manufacturing industry and ensuring that critical technology, spares, and maintenance remain within the country.
